A QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS OF MESSIAH COLLEGE’S BLACK STUDENT UNION: EXPERIENCES OF BLACK STUDENTS

I spent a semester conducting original and qualitative research of Messiah College's Black Student Union for my Qualitative Research Methods Class. Not only did I learn how to conduct and analyze qualitative research, but my understanding of race, especially within predominately white institutions, dramatically increased.

In my COMM Theory class, our final "Artifact Analysis" paper required us to connect a communication theory to a communication artifact within our culture. I chose to analyze the "Aerie Real" Campaign through the lens of semiotics.

THE “PROBLEM” OF WOMEN IN THE WORK FORCE

At the end of my Quantitative Research Methods course, I had to submit a final research proposal. I chose to submit my research proposal on the tension that many women feel between a career and family.

FRONTLINE EDUCATION: PUBLIC RELATIONS ANALYSIS

As a way to synthesize all of the built-up knowledge on the principles of public relations, my PR course required an analysis of a company's public relations. I chose to interview the company I interned with during the summer of 2018 and offer a comprehensive analysis and recommendation of its PR practices.

My Public Relations Writing course had us "work" with a toy company client. The assignments include a comprehensive approach to the toy company's anniversary campaign.

FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES ON RHETORICAL THEORY

A Powerpoint I created and used to teach a rhetorical theory lesson on the Feminist perspective to students in Messiah College's Rhetorical Theory Communication Course. Through this experience, I gained public speaking and teaching skills.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICES COORDINATOR MANUAL

I created this manual over the course of my internship at Frontline Education to document my roles. This manual is used by the person hired to fulfill the position after my internship ended. For confidentiality reasons, only the first 6 pages are available.

COMMUNICATION RESEARCH METHODS

A Powerpoint I created to teach the Communication Seminar class on the basics of communication research. Through this experience, I strengthened my public speaking skills and learned how to engage a classroom of students.
